Paul Schreiber, a Pioneer in the Synthesizer Community, Passes Away at 69
A sad report reached the US modular synthesizer community. Paul Schreiber died at 69. He founded Synthesis Technology and built many synthesizers. His work mixed fine analog and digital work. He also shared his knowledge with many fans.
A kezdetek
In 1981 Paul worked at Tandy Corporation. He joined Moog’s team to make the low-cost analog synthesizer. Radio Shack sold this unit as Realistic Concertmate MG-1. The MG-1 grew to be very popular. It still stands as one of the first affordable synthesizers.
Synthesis Technology és a MOTM formátum
In 1998 Paul started Synthesis Technology. He created the MOTM format. This format let musicians and tech fans build their own systems, piece by piece. It used sizes like the Moog Modular 5U while adding new parts and strong ideas. One new part was digital, seen in the MOTM-650 MIDI interface.
A fejlődés a Eurorack irányába
Paul’s company later made Eurorack modules. In 2010 they released their first Eurorack module, the E340 Cloud Generator. Many more modules came with fresh ideas. Paul’s modules broke from old rules. His work includes the E370 Quad Morphing VCO and the E520 Hyperion Processor.
Utolsó hónapok
In August 2023 Paul left the active synthesizer scene. He stayed part of the community and kept working. In his retirement he built a new module that reached the market. The Synthesis Technology E430 copies the classic SEM 12dB/oct filter and adds extra functions.
