CALERA, Ala. – Calera folks now keep guests. City leaders plan new hotels. They build three hotels. New hotels spur growth, create jobs, and help local shops grow.
Councilwoman Kay Turner cites sports events. Many fans flock to the Eagles Sports Complex. They leave fast. They go to nearby towns for more rooms, food, and shops. Turner says, "We need more hotels, more places to eat, and more shops here."
This plan works to raise taxes and grow small shops. New firms may come as well. It works like fishing. Hotels, food spots, and shops serve as bait.
What hotels are planned? First, Home2 Suites rises on Metro Drive. Next, the Holiday Inn stands on Beverly Drive. Both finish work by the end of the year. The third, Comfort Inn, starts soon on Beverly Drive. It may open its doors in 2026. Turner checks key spots along Interstate 65. Exits 238, 231, and 234 are on her list. In spring and summer, traffic fills the road like a parade. Visitors head to and from the beach.
City staff give a clear sign. Their goal is to keep guests in Calera so they eat, shop, and spend cash locally. The town gears up for change. Soon, new hotels may bring big rewards for Calera.
